Day 17 - Al and Ray's Excellent Adventure

Day 17 – Al and Ray’s Excellent Adventure: Workshop Warriors and Italian Feasts

We kicked off the day with breakfast at Bellagio's Café with our friends Kevin and Rebecca. The food was all very good. After breakfast, we walked down to the convention center, where the chaos level was somewhere between “Black Friday” and “a music festival with no bathrooms.” It was mobbed. Loud voices. Nonstop walking. Laughter echoing off every surface. Basically, it was introvert bootcamp.

We got shut out of a couple of workshops because they were full—which is just a nice way of saying we were late and underestimated how many people are morning people. But we managed to attend four other workshops. Not bad for two guys running on caffeine and hope.

Later, we hopped on a train and headed off to meet Kevin and Rebecca again, this time for Italian food. On the way, we casually passed a few Sherman WWII tanks and cannons. You know, just your standard dinner commute décor. Nothing sets the mood for spaghetti quite like a Panzer.

Dinner was incredible. The kind of meal that makes you momentarily forget you’ve been on your feet for ten straight hours.

Then it was off to the stadium for an evening of uplifting spiritual talks from the elders—an inspiring cap to a whirlwind day.

Afterward, Ray and I navigated the sea of humans in the packed streets for the long walk back to our hotel. At this point, we both were begging for a pillow.

Tomorrow, it’s the big split: Ray and I will have one last breakfast before parting ways. Ray will be staying in Vancouver another day before heading off on a mystery tour with his son—possibly Reno or Edmonton. (Either gambling or moose—very different vibes.)

As for me? I'm heading east. Back on the road again. Day driving only, thank you very much—I’m officially done with surprise midnight deer attacks. One wrecked vehicle per trip is enough.

The adventure continues…
