Day 5 Al and Ray's Excellent Adventure

Day 5: The Long Haul to the Rockies

Al and Ray kicked off Day 5 with a solid seven-hour drive headed toward the amazing Rocky Mountain National Park. The scenery? Let’s just say we got very familiar with the Great Plains. Acres of flat land, dotted with oil pumps doing their slow-motion dance and wind turbines spinning like they were trying to power the entire Midwest.

Naturally, this stretch of road sparked many deep questions—mostly directed at Google. We explored the altitudes of random cities across the U.S. because why not? It’s a long drive, and curiosity knows no speed limit.

We made a pit stop at a shopping village, which was… fine. But then we stumbled upon a little chocolate shop that changed everything. As their sign wisely said: “Chocolate is the answer—who cares what the question is?” Philosophers could not have said it better. There was also an unexpectedly cool art gallery that made us feel more cultured than we probably deserved.

Later, we caught up with some of Bill’s friends, who brought good conversation and some good spiritual thought. Solid folks, great vibes.

Then we arrived at our hotel—a cool little lodge… with no ramp and stairs made of jagged boulders, apparently. Getting the luggage up was a full-body workout. Let’s just say tomorrow morning’s exit will be “adventurous.”

Up next: the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park! Can’t wait to trade plains for peaks!
