Day 4 Truman Library

Day 4 - Kansas City

Day 4: Al and Ray's excellent adventure continues.

When we arrived in St. Louis, the wind was strong—but that was nothing compared to last night in Kansas City, where it was even more intense. Today, as we head out of Kansas City and drive toward Salina, Kansas, the wind hasn’t let up. If anything, it’s worse. It honestly feels like we've somehow ended up in a giant wind tunnel!

This morning, we slept in a bit. Once we got going, we visited the National World War I Memorial. It was incredibly impressive and far more informative than we anticipated—there was so much to see and learn.

Next, we made our way to the Truman Presidential Library. This was another highlight of the day. The collection was extensive, featuring a wealth of World War II memorabilia, as well as fascinating exhibits about Truman himself, including a replica of his White House office. Ray shared that his dad served in Patton’s army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, which added a meaningful personal connection to what we saw.

We did hit a small snag when we found out that the Eisenhower Presidential Library is closed on Mondays—a recent change we hadn’t accounted for when planning the trip. So, we’re adjusting course and heading west to Colorado, hoping to find something fun to do in Denver or near our hotel in Estes Park.
