Trip to Dinosaur Quarry & Dinosaur National Monument
Today we had an unforgettable trip to the Dinosaur Quarry and Dinosaur National Monument, and it was like stepping into another world—one that existed over 150 million years ago.
The highlight of the trip was the Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall. Inside, there's a massive wall of exposed rock filled with real dinosaur fossils, still embedded just where paleontologists found them. Seeing the bones of Allosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Diplodocus up close—many still partially buried in stone, was surreal. It really gave us a sense of the immense time scale and the incredible creatures that once roamed this part of the world.
Wesat in on a fascinating 45-minute geology talk that took us deep into the Jurassic period. The ranger walked us through the incredible fossils found in the park, explained how massive dinosaurs once roamed this very land, and painted a vivid picture of how time, water, and rock shaped the stunning landscape we see today.
After getting our minds blown by the massive fossils at Dinosaur National Monument, we jumped in the car and drove to the petroglyps. This kind of landscape was like being in the middle of a giant time machine made of sandstone and sky.
We drove along Cub Creek Road, a scenic little stretch that’s part paved, part gravel, and 100% beautiful. Around every bend, we were treated to views of red rock cliffs, and desert brush.
The whole trip only took a few hours, but it felt like we traveled from the Jurassic era to ancient human history, all before lunchtime.
After the park, we hit the road for a scenic six-and-a-half-hour drive to Jackson Hole, where we enjoyed dinner.
After dinner, as we made our way to the hotel, we spotted a herd of elk grazing near the roadside. It was an unexpected and fascinating sight—dozens of them moving quietly through the twilight, adding a perfect touch of wild Wyoming magic to end the day.
